The Magnetic Start Key on my treadmill

On the 18th of this month I will be getting mu Biventricular Pacemaker-ICD at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY.  I'm wondering if the magnetic start key on my treadmill is going to interefere with my pacemaker?

Just keep the key away from youur PM. In-other-words; as long as you don't hold the key against your PM........no problem.

once, when I irritated my wife severely, she decided to commit the perfect crime, and placed refrigerator magnets over my device while I slept. If memory serves, she got up to 36 in the stack and no luck...poor woman is still trying to figure out how to end the agony.

Relax the magnets in things like treadmill keys are far too weak to have any effect. There is very little you need worry about in this vein. and, yes the manufacturer will caution you about certain things, like refrigerator magnets but the reality is they are just covering their assets. Seriously I have even had a heart MRI with my non MRI device.

Thanks for your imput.  This Pacemaker business is all new to me-since 1982 I have basically dealt with bypass grafts and stents - Left Bundle Branch Block  and Heart Failure are new challenges.  I will keep everyone posted as to how things go next Monday.  Thanks again.  Sid AKA Cardiac Man.

Everyday magnets

I just wanted to reassure you that at least with modern devices, the problem with magnets and magnetic fields is that they may put you into a temporary unprogrammed mode - basically a set rate and no features like rate response. At least that's my understanding. You'll probably get to see what that feels like during an interrogation, and it may feel pretty bad (or not) but you will still be alive and conscious.

I think years and years of warnings about "microwaves in use" every time we step into a convenience store had had a subliminal effect.

At my last MRI, the tech told me that worst case, they could do the MRI without him and that I'd then have to be reprogrammed from scratch instead of him switching settings on and off. Not that I'd want to test that, but these devices are built to work under extreme circumstances.

Good luck with your new device. With all you've been through, this is going to be a piece of cake.
