Dear Friends, Just a few quick questions. Is there any problem Flying with a Pacemaker? I haven't been up in a while, but I am going next week to a Family reunion in the Midwest. I was wondering if the plane will effect my Pacemaker? Also, I will only be gone for a week, do I have to take that monitor thing with Me?I have been feeling really good, but i wasn't sure! Thanks, Pastor Mike

Airport security

You can also walk through the 'standard' airport security gates at a normal pace. In the past many of us have been told to have a pat down instead, but now most manufacturers say you can walk through (just let them know you have a pacemaker, so that in case it beeps they know what it is).

Flying/the plane will have no effect at all on your pacemaker. I have done long distance flights (up to 12 hours) with three different pacemakers from three different manufacturers since 1999 and have never ever experienced any problem.
Agree with Hoser about the monitor question. I have not remote monitoring - in Germany the 'normal' pacemaker patients do not get is -, but I have heard from a few patients who also only take theirs with them when they travel for a longer period of time.
Safe travels!
Security devices

Whenever I enter a building with a security device, i.e. metal detector, I explain that I have a pacemaker, the security personal automatically ask me to "assume the position" (patdown).
Thanks

Flying is not a problem, but be sure that you only let the TSA use the full body scanner on you. That one is pacemaker safe.
As for your monitor, I only need to take mine if I am away for more than two weeks, but you should consult your cardiologist for your specific case.
