New here!

Hi! My name is Haley and I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm currently 20 years old and I got my pacemaker when I was 17. I have a resting heart rate of 40. My slow heart rate was a result of my two open heart surgeries as a baby. I have a AV canal defect and coarctation. During these surgeries they somehow messed my heart beat up. For most of my life it didn't cause me issues, I just had the heart rate of an adult. Over the years it got slower and when I was 17 they decided a pacemaker would be the best option. Three years later and I barley notice it's there. I still haven't been through airport security yet, so I'm waiting for that adventure haha. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself!

Welcome............really glad to have you on-board here! People like yourself have a lot to offer here in the forum.

As far as airports go; my experience after having flown dozens of times has been that my PM has never triggered their detectors. I have not shown my PM Card and they haven't asked. Most folks say that we shouldn't allow them to use the wand due to potential interference. I have been wanded many times (out of ignorance). Again, no detect and no problem with my PM. I have pretty much done everything that we are advised to avoid without any problems.

Sincerely,

David

Your anxiety is normal. It takes some of us a little time to adjust to the new friend. As much as they love you, family and friends without a device just cannot understand the adjustment we go through. That is why this site is so valuable.
