New Guy - Added information

Today I go to the surgeon to discuss having a two lead PM inserted, possible as early as tomorrow. I am so glad I found this site and have been reading a lot of good post. A big thank you to all that have shared information, makes the task somewhat bearable...

I have a HR at rest of 36, 24 hr recorder. Stress test the rate got to 109, end of the test time. Other test show nothing but slow HR. Out of breath and fatigue are my worst symptoms. If anything interesting happens I'll share as others have before me...

Hi all, I had surgery this past Friday (6/10). My condidtion is no where near as bad as some others here so I wish well to everyone.

My story began March 25 this year. That is the day I stopped smoking after 40+ years. I have COPD and my breathing got so hard that I thought I would die. After I stopped the cigs cold turkey with a nicotine patch my breathing actually began to get worse, not just under a work load but also at rest. I went to my GP to renew my COPD script and my heart rate was at 39. While there they ran an EKG and confirmed the low HR. My doctor said I had Sinus Bradycardia and made me an appointment with a heart specialists. Over two weeks I had three or four test and it was reccommended I see the pacemaker surgeon. This led to a diagnoses of Chronotropic Incompetence.

Surgery on Friday morning 8:30 am, One Chamber St. Jude Assurity model with Merlin home monitor. Released at 4:00 pm Friday with some good pain meds...but I'm not hurting so that was a waste...

I can breath now...

I have a big smile on. All my fears were wasted. I had an easy time and I would hope that each and everyone of the members here have easy and successful results.

I want to thank all the brave members here for the advice, prayers, tips and support.

Hi & welcome to the club. I was exactly like you with a slow heart rate and they call it Sick Sinus Syndrome.  I had my pacemaker implanted in Aug 2016 and now after almost a year, must say that my quality of life has improved tremendously.  In fact  your would feel much better right after implant of pacemaker & would no long suffer from fatigue or breathlessness when you stress yourself physically.  So go for it with confidence & I wish you all the best for your big day.

Welcome to the club! Your condition is a pretty common one and easily treated with a PM. I am confident it will be a gradifying experience for you! Not to worry about the surgery or in-fact; having a PM. I have had one for 30 years and it is all good! Seriously, there really are no negatives other than the occasional device checks and battery replacement every 8-12 years. Those are only minor inconveniences.

The great thing about this site is that if you ever have any real-life questions or concerns there are lots of folks here with lots of real life experience.

Wish you the very best...........

David
