Is there a support group similar to the pacerclub for those who are about to have a coronary by-pass?
A friend will have surgery in a week or so and would appreciate the advice of those who have been through the operation, recovery and so on. I hope there is one as helpful as the Pacerclub.. In searching the net there seem to be many - some of which appear to have commercial tie-ins.

Vikisez .... Looks like valvereplacement.org is focussed on valves...
Is there a support group focussing on by-pass?
One that I see has commercial backing.

I had triple bypass 22 days ago - I am 66 years old. I too would love to read comments from others who have experienced the same thing. I got my pm in Dec of 2011 and this club has been such a blessing. It's a slow healing process. I was advised by my doctor, nurses, and in the reading material that I could suffer depression. So when I did experience it, even though it was not pleasant, I knew it was normal. I hope I can be an encouragement to others in the future who face bypass surgery.

Akanina;
I will pass your comment to my friend.. He may join the pacerclub and contact you to share experiences. There comes a time when we all need this sort of thing

By-Pass (CABG) support

You could try www.dailystrength.org They have many support groups one of which is for by-pass support. I should say also they are in process of updating their site and things are a bit slow but you might find it of interest.

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.

I think there are quite a few members on here who have been through the procedure. Personally I had a triple graft a little over 18 years ago, following an MI that required immediate intervention. As you’ve mentioned “open-heart” I assume that has already been decided on. As with many things the technology has moved on, depending which vessels require grafting, key-hole procedures are now used in some cases.
It’s certainly major surgery but probably not as bad as you imagine it. As with most of these invasive procedures the trick is allowing your body time to heal . In the case of open heart you are talking a few months not a few weeks.
