Edited 21 minutes after I wrote it on 6 June, 2016; 72 yrs after "The Longest Day."
I am going to start putting my own GMT date stamps in my postings to remove confusion later on. Here's why...
I went in to my archived Messages & Comments to check up on something & noticed that my POST entitled "Lexiscan" is listed as last month, when in reality it was posted on 12 APRIL, TWO MONTHS AGO, or was it? I have no idea what the algorithm is for determining dates or time elapssed since posting items.
It would save a lot of coding to revert to GMT date stamps - once printed, they never have to be revisited & converted continuously as their age increases.
Would someone pls look at the thread entitled "Sedation," by "Pacing Unicorn" & tell me the correct sequence of the comments? I thought that they were listed by most recent at the top. Yet there is one comment that is listed as "Last week," when the date listed for the original post is 6 days ago. That means that the comment was listed BEFORE the original post was created.
As I recall, that thread was started on the Friday before last week began, which is now 9 days ago? His surgery was on Tuesday, last week, which is now 6 days ago, but my first comment is listed as 5 days ago, when obviously I wrote it BEFORE he went for surgery.
I think we need to go back to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) date stamps for our references. It's only going to get more confusing as time goes on. Consider next month when ALL the items in the thread are dated as "Last Month," Or is it "One Month Ago"?

Are you certain it's a bad thing...?

This response has not been written or posted yet, you're imagining it.
Donnie, Donnie, Donnie, look at the positive aspects that I'm reasonably sure that Blake, in his infinite wisdom (note the intentional suck up) implemented especially for old farts like us...we'll be dead for 9 months before we read our obituaries on here. Of course all the advice on how to correct our death will be a bit late for our benefit but hey there are always trade offs.

...Olde Reactionary Pharts are comimng out of their caves, sharpening up their stone -tipped spears & chipping sharper edges on their stone axes, preparing for the Mastadon hunt.
(Pssssst! watch your tongues, the site owner is lurking about. I just saw his name in the list of clan members who are on site ritght now! Probably lurking behind a big rock, looking for troublemakers & stirrers of the pot.)
Yeah, Ian & Patch, I remember you from our last Mastadon hunt. It was memorable - at least for me. At the campfire that night, my Mother-in-law was regailing us youngsters w/ tales of her days as a callow yout, hunting dinosaurs w/ her clan - the same stories I got to hear over & over while she was tending our children many years later. That was not so bad, but that old crone in the sabre-toothed tiger hide that kept haranguing youse guys about using obsolete tactics for trapping & killing the mastadons was a pain.
But I digress! We just leasrned one thing this AM. They are using GMT as a refrerence for the "5 hours ago" business. Basd on the Date Time stamp I put in my post, GMT would be 5 hours ago for that.
But - your two msgs are in reverse sequence. I'm betting that the system only changes sequence at midnight GMT. We'll know tomorrow. I know, because I'll stay up till then, which is about supper time for me.
I know Blake put in a lot of work on the revision of the site. he took to heart the many comments we gave him back before he even started the job, so it must reflect what we suggested. He sent it to the moderators for comment before going live. This, however is not just a revision, but a start from scratch rebuild with all the problems that crop up from unintended consequences of changes that seem simple, but come out bad.
I know that when I went through it in its "Beta Configuration," I caught nowhere near all the comments you have made. More eyes looking at it means more things that have gone astray. (suck up)
I have already given Blake some criticisms that I have that are particular to my old age eye sight failures (macular degeneration) The site confguration & lay out is ghastly for me, but probably fine for everyone else.
A lot of glitches will come to be noticed in the future as more read it. Look at all the side effects that come to be noticed about a new meds after release to the public & users come into the millions instead of the thousands.
If we don't tell Blake, he will never know - so pile on & give it to him straight from the shoulder.

Adaptation
by Good Dog - 2016-06-06 16:28:47
There is something to be said for adaptation gentlemen. I noticed the differences (you may call them glitches) and just thought.......I have to give them time to tweak the site and hey, I'll learn my way around. I am a member of other forums that offer so much less than this one.
Just grateful for what we have here (now that is sucking-up big-time.....................)
I am sooo confused
by Grateful Heart - 2016-06-07 23:19:20
Both with getting around the new site and just reading this thread.
So I guess I too am now a dinosaur, a creature of habit... resistant to change and imagining this thread. WHEW
Ahhh but yes, I am afterall.....Grateful.

Feedback is good!
by admin - 2016-06-08 22:03:04
Like anything new, it takes some time to get comfortable with it and also some time to work out the kinks.
I appreciate your feedback and will look into the chronological sequencing of replies. The idea behind using 1 day ago instead of the exact time is because we thought nobody cared about the exact time of the comment. I for one do not - provided the comments are being displayed in the correct order so the conversation can be easily followed.
There are definitely still E-Mail messages to alert us to the receipt of private messages - I've been receiving them. If it doesn't work for you check My Account to ensure this option is turned on and also check your email filters to ensure emails from us are not being blocked.
The topic " Jokes " and a few others have been removed. The list of forum topics was getting too long, which made the drop down menu confusing. I removed the least active forum topics. Feel free to post your jokes under general postings.
The layout of the website now uses the full screen. This should make it easier to read postings and find information. The format and fonts chosen are commonly used online.
Cheers,
Blake

Just started getting the email notifications again, thanks Blake. I also have all of my old Private Messages back. Yay!
One more request....(I know...but I'm female). Any chance the full page could be...maybe a light gray background or something a little softer. I'm getting a bad sunburn from the bright white. I'm very fair skinned and burn and freckle easily....not to mention the extra sunscreen is getting costly.

I just learned ...

...something else.
I do NOT see the same screen that all of you see! Recall I said that I have a 24 inch wide screen adapted for graphics design work. All the glaring white & everything stretched that wide is annoying as all getout.
So...I picked up my iPad & looked at the PMC on a 4X3 ratio screen to see if there was any difference. By golly, Miss Molly - there IS!!!
I see the same text in the same number of lines per paragraph - it is exactly the same as what you see w/ ONE exception - I saw a column of ads down the right side of the screen that I cannot seem to find on this presentation on my desktop.
Also - the box that I am typing this inis very narrow & tall, exactly like what i saw on my iPad. 2/3 of the screen is a huge, glaring white blank field.
This comment compose screen looks EXACTLY like the compose screen on the old site.
OK, Blake - WHY????? What does the Web Wizard do to make the two presentations look so different. I'll take a photo of it & send it to you so you can see what is so uncomfortable to me. We have been a pair of blind men describing an elephant from touch!

Update on Glitches

Blake. Just sent two photos to your PMC e-mail address.
My e-mail has been recieving msgs for three days now, but the ones pointing to comments does not have a functional link. It does for a Pvt Msg, however.
What about that spellchecker you talked about once upon a time? It doesn't even highlight bad words now.

Why the changes ?
by IAN MC - 2016-06-06 09:54:04
I'm glad that you have posted this, Don . Having survived more years on the planet earth than I care to remember I realise that I am resistant to change.
( Apparently " resistance to change " was instilled in our cavemen ancestors who rightly believed that " If I am alive today, then what I was doing yesterday must have been right " )
But it is not only my resistance to change which makes me ask why we have changed a perfectly acceptable format of the PM club to the new format which appears to offer very few benefits and several steps back :-
- the chronological sequencing of replies has become a mess
- there are no longer E-Mail messages to alert us to the receipt of private nessages
- the topic " Jokes " has disappeared, ( perhaps in anticipation of member feedback on the format changes )
We all do appreciate your work in creating this site ,Blake , but please do think again about these unnecessary changes as I worry that PM members may vote with their feet.
Ian
