Box change

Hi all. New to the group. 1st implant in 1994 due to total heart block. 3 days ago I had my 4th box implanted, still with original leads. Traumatic removal due to tissue being 'rock'like after 9 years. 2 incisions needed, 1 for removal and 1 for insertion. Pain today is heavy, headache and some neuralgia. However, I have now had 24 years more life than I would have had if these devices were not around. So, if you ever need one look on it as a necessary evil with a gift of life. Not a nice experience for anyone but I have a life. Good luck everyone waiting and well done to those who braved it. I only ever have local anaesthetic as pulse is 13bpm when disconnected. Feeling sore and tired now and a bit annoyed with myself for moaning but the Sun is shining and life continues a little longer.

It is a blessing isn't it

I have only had my PM for 6 weeks, but I like you am so pleased I was able to get one after a couple years of feeling like I was ready to drop at any moment. Mine like yours is needed for every beat of my heart and thank goodness it keeps right on working. They tell me I will need another in 10 years or less and at that time they should even be built better and last longer. Not sure I would want to go through what you just did, but like you say, at least you are alive. Good luck

When we don't have much choice

In my 6th week post implant as well and it is not something we would choose to do but something we had to do to keep on keepin' on, thankful for the technology that keeps us ticking.

welcome

What a positive attitude. Your post and the two comments above to it are news those being told they need a device need to read. So true, that like some other parts of our lives not being something we would choose either, our response is our choice. Take care, and may the sun keep shining for you.

You know you're wired when...

You prefer rechargeable batteries.

I live an extremely normal life now and my device does NOT hinder me in any way.
