pseudoephedrin

Hi
I have terrible flu symptoms, and without thinking too much I just took a tablet that contain 60mg pseudoephedrine. It was combo of 4 things, and I just checked that the pills don´t interact with warfarin ie sintrom (all good to go) and popped the pill in..and little while after thought geee....and the pacemaker???

Any experiences? Just sit back, wait for the nose to stop running and look forward in seeing the heart doing laps instead? Is it terribly dangerous or just downright annoying?

I have 3rd degree block and 100% dependency since an unicuspid aortic valve operation that cut the pathways.

Glad you are okay. Most of us make the same mistake. Some members report no problems, others are not so fortunate.

One of the things I accidently discovered, is that when I eat or drink something that causes me grief, drinking lots of water, runs the stuff through me faster. Better to avoid problems, however, flushing works also.

A couple of years ago, I had a horrible cold, decided to take a little kids dose of cold goop, I just took 1/2 of what was recommended, well, I thought I was going to have to go into ER, my heart went into Afib, it was awful, painful and scary. No more, hot water, honey, lemon, steam, those are my cold/flu fighters now.

Each person is a bit different. Also, we need to be careful not to get too much aspirin, it is easy to get too much acetylsalicylic which might cause bleeding and/or liver and kidney complications. Some people are on blood thinners, add acetylsalicylic to that and you could easily have unintended complications.

I'm happy to say that despite my initial concerns turned out that apart from very mild and passing palpitations pseudoephedrin did not do anything unsual. Maybe if the dose is bigger it can cause more severe problems, as to the style of what is mentioned on the studies with possible severe interactions with pacemakers.
