worried

I am having an issue, that I am hoping someone may have insight on. I am six weeks in with my pace maker, and I am a 43 year old female. I was feeling really good for the most part, as far as energy, and such. For the last 6 days, I have been on my cycle, and the last few days, I feel very drained and tired. Is this normal, or should I be concerned? Thank you in advance. My pm has been interrogated twice

Ty. I wasn't sure about the lack of energy. I have my pm due to my heart rate being at 30 or below due to complete cardiac av block. I guess toning down my activity level until I see the doc again might be a good thing

PM sensor/recovery setting

Some PM's can be programmed to use both movement as well as respiration in order to pick up the pace.

In my case I can actually tell when each 'kicks in' when I exercise on an elliptical...although for other activity I don't even notice it.

After the first month my EP adjusted the recovery rate so that it would pick up faster for me which helped with my fatigue during exercise.

Well done getting back on your bike 5 weeks after the implant, it took me much longer. I don't know how much cycling you are doing, but following the surgery and 5 weeks off the bike you will have lost some of your fitness. When I resumed cycling I started off with lots of short gentle rides before slowly building back up to the more challanging rides. The short gentle rides also helped to build up my confidence that nothing bad was going to happen. One other thing, if you are going to increase your level of exercise then you need to adapt your diet accordingly to ensure you have sufficient energy reserves.

Sometimes when we start to feel better, we overdo it and wear ourselves out. Fatigue is pretty normal the first month or two.

Another thought, why do you have the pacer? If you are depending on the pacer to get your rate up when you exercise, it could be that the pacer isn't sensing it when you are on the bike. Some of them have to feel the movement before they raise the rate, and on a bike that doesn't happen because the torso is stationary. It could just be that the settings need tweaked.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
