Sleepless nights

Hi. I have had my icd implanted on my right side of my chest in December 2015 . I have had a lot of discomfort there. Because I am very slender in built. But recently I am having sleepless nights . Anyone else having this problem. I cannot sleep a full nights sleep. I am on medication that I take in the mornings only.

Hi, Sam
On my second ICD, and yes, there is a device adjustment period for all phases of our life, including sleep. Sleeplessness can be due to physical discomfort of procedure trauma, healing, medication or a combination, other physical issues, fear of sleeping which causes the muscles to be tense, a device placement issue and so on. You should be beyond most procedure related issues by now. Have you tried not sleeping on a side....the device side gets lots of pressure, and the opposite side causes pulling, Try sleeping on your back with a pillow under shoulder/arm on device side. If you are taking a medication or combination that can cause drowsiness, ask if you can take at night instead of morning. Please get with your medical care now. You need sleep for both your physical well being and happiness. Hope you have an answer and relief soon.
