Hi all. Hope everone is doing okay. Quick question. I think I was told when I got my pm 5 weeks ago that I'm not to have caffeine. But maybe I was dreaming. Ha, ha. I'm really not a coffee drinker, but I miss drinking Coke. Yes, I know it's not healthy, but once in a while? Any feedback would be so appreciated. Thanks. (I was dx with mobitz type 2 block.)

The caffene-PM connection
by oldearthworm - 2016-04-18 05:04:40
This I see not .. I don't think that one 7 ounce coke per year will hurt ..much .. But there is a definite sugar-health connection . I am diabetic and I have discovered that its easier and more effective to simply ZERO out unhealthy things ..at least 99% ..
Drink Caffeine-Free Diet Coke

I can't have caffeine, so I switched to Caffeine-free diet coke. I hated it at first, but after drinking it a few times I came to love it. You acquire a taste. Also, after you drink it for a while the regular coke is way too sweet.
I know, I know, there are lots of folks that believe that caffeine-free is bad for you............and to that I say: Leave me alone......................
I think you were dreaming

If you were OK having caffeine prior to the PM there is no reason to stop it now . Maybe your Dr is an anti-caffeine crank ?
Having a PM does not change your diet in any way if you had it just for heart block. Providing that you don't have other conditions which you haven't mentioned I suggest :-
That you enjoy your Coke , you can always stop it if you do have any adverse effects

caffeine

There is a known link between caffeine consumption and arrhythmias. As to whether it's an issue for you, only you can determine. Try some and see.
Try it and see!

As has been said, there's no reason why you shouldn't have caffeine if you didn't have a problem with it before.
I have heart block. I drink coffee. I do feel my heart rate increase, but it would do that to anyone: I'm just more aware of it now.
Some people don't like feeling the rate increase. I put up with it, because I like coffee, and wine, which also increases my rate. But it's not doing me any harm.
sensitive

I agree with sensitivity varies. I can't even drink decaf coffee any more. My arrhythmia goes crazy. Everyone's different.....

sensitivity varies

Caffeine often kicks off arrythmias and makes them worse for some people. The sensitivity varies from person to person. You could try a moderate amount to see how you feel and gradually increase your consumption as tolerated. I would err on the side of caution though and switch to caffeine free drinks. Some coffee drinkers switch to a 50/50 mix of decaf and regular. You could try that with your coke. Better yet, drinking alot of water seems to be beneficial and highly recommended by both cardiologists and PM Club members.
