Hi. I am new to the forum .
I am due to get my 3rd pacemaker changed on Thursday .
I am so nervous , I have a chest infection and doctor has put me on steroids and antibiotics . I am really concerned that the doctor at the hospital won't change the box due to the infection. I am off work for 2 weeks whilst kids are off school , I wanted to recover at home .
I haven't told people that I have a pacemaker as I find they look at you different . I have had them since I was 18 .
I now have children of my own and I am worried that the procedure might not go as well as the past .
Any advice would be great Thanks

You have to let your doctor know what is going on so they can make an informed decision whether or not to proceed. If you have a fever, they generally will not operate. Beyond, that, it's up to the surgeon. Doctors have to be very wary of spreading infection, which is for our protection. The absolute last thing you would want is to risk the pacer pocket getting infected. It would be inconvenient to postpone, and hopefully you are feeling better by Thursday and they don't, but this isn't the time to tough it out.
I'd be willing to bet people don't look at you as funny as you imagine they do. I don't advertise it, but I don't keep it a secret either. Usually people are surprised, that's it. I don't treat it as a big deal, they follow my lead.
You know you're wired when...
You fondly named your implanted buddy.

I completely agree with Tracey. The thing to remember is that you likely have plenty of time to allow for your recovery from your chest infection.
Aside from all of that it is important to remember that the change-out is a pretty safe and simple procedure. There is very little likelihood that your chest infection would create any complications. However, you should contact your cardiologist office and let them know what is going-on. It will be their call to go ahead or postpone.
Both Tracey and myself have had a replacement in the past 6 months. I've had 4 and I think that she has had five. It is a piece of cake. I'm sure she'll tell you the same.
Wising you the best,
David
