Hi its Sue again, after my husband removed his PM due to infections. The doctor encourages him to re-install the PM to place on the right side instead of the same position due in about 3 or 4months later. Now he is in dilemmas as to put it again after so much complications which he has gone through. Meantime now he is still on drips until fully recovery from the infections. Pls give us yr opinion or suggestions what shall we do? Remark; The doctor told him that he has a weak heart and he will has a frequent short breathe if he didn't do it. Therefore I hope to receive yr feedback or advise on this. Thank so much.

How has he felt without it? My guess is worse, they wouldn't have given it to him in the first place if he didn't need it. It's up to him, and it's understandable that he doesn't want to go through more surgery, but sometimes we have to take a step back and look at the big picture.
Noted with thanks...

Hi Sue !!
Reading your postings brings lots of memories as I've been the route with pacemaker sites & infections over the years since 1992. I'm on my 6th pacemaker with 3 different sites and doing real well. You can type under (Search) upper right corner under my address DonB & get some history. You also could send me Private Message with questions and I would update you with some thoughts.
As having infections & treatments I'm sure your man is getting the 7 week IV's & he will be OK. I also want to mention proper implant site treatment after infection is priority.
I am 84years of age & doing far better with no restrictions on activities.

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.

If I were him I'd have a new one implanted after he is fully recovered. You have to minimize the risk, but the improved quality of life it will provide is certainly worth doing it again. You should check the infection rate for the hospital and compare it to others in your area. I would go with the lowest. However, infections occur even in the best hospitals. Since it reflects poorly on the hospital, after this occurrence you can bet that the doctors will do everything possible to insure it doesn't happen again.
Just my opinion.................
Sincerely,
David
