Cause of Heart Block

I developed complete heart block with no family history of any heart conditions. Nobody seems to be able to tell me where it came from...good news is my pacemaker is working wonderfully and I feel great.

We were just informed at work that there are toxins in our building - bad ones - lead, asbestos, benzene, and numerous others. I have read that toxins can cause heart block. Do any of you all know anything about this or have any of you heard about this?

Thanks.

No explanation

There are many causes including Lyme Disease. Sometimes there is just no explanation. There are many people walking around with PM's that have no idea how or why. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter.

Ditto what GoodDog said. Most of us don't know why we have it. It's a short circuit in an otherwise perfectly normal, healthy heart. Lyme can cause it, some surgeries can, sometimes it's caused by infection or some medications. Moms with Lupus are more likely to have babies with CCHB. If you don't fit into any of those categories, odds are it's just a fluke, an electrical connection that was never there if you were born with it, or broke down if you developed it. As Dave said, ultimately it doesn't really matter. Nothing we did caused it, nothing we could have done differently would have prevented it, but the good news is the pacer fixes it and we can leave full, active lives.

A pacemaker suddenly quitting is no more likely to happen than you are to be struck by lightening.
