Hi I am new here I have just had a 2 chamber Medtronic Ensura pacemaker fitted two weeks ago and every night at approximately 1.05am it activates 4 times, I can feel it quite strong it feels like cross between someone is flicking their finger directly at my heart quite hard and sort of butterfly type feeling not terrible but not something I look froward to either, I do not go back for a checkup for about another 4 weeks but wanted to know if this should be happening and if it is normal to feel it go off like this .
I was told when I asked that I would not feel it when it is working, I do feel it at other times but these are random times.
I was called in at the last minute for the operation the day before I was due to go and see the doctor so I did not get much chance to have things explained to me or have any questions I wanted to ask prepared so everything was a bit much to take in.
Thanks for any help or advice
Guy

Self check
by IAN MC - 2016-01-30 08:01:12
Mine was happening every night at 11.00 pm and I didn't enjoy it particularly so I had it switched off ; I don't miss it !
I think they will only switch it off when they they have a few years of data showing that all is well with the way the PM is functioning but I may be wrong on that.

Probably self check

Techs usually put in a self check. The time varies. Mine goes off at 12:20 AM. Thumpity,, thump. Guess it's 12:20? Why the tech set it at that time I don't know. Never saw him again.
You can ask to have it set at a specific time, also in the daytime if you wish. Since Medtronic is moving to remote sensing via the Internet, having the self check gives Medtronic a report that everything is OK. Obviously if there were some minor problems you'd want to know right away.
And yes, I don't feel my PM working. Not since they dropped the voltage at 90 days. But I often feel the effects of it working. When you stop to think about it, it's kinda reassuring knowing it is working to keep you alive.
Hope everything else is going well for you.

Thank you for your quick reply.
Can I ask you when you say drop the voltage would that usually be checked and done at your first pacemaker checkup if needed, I as presume when it is first fitted mine was only two weeks ago they just estimate the best settings until a checkup is done,
Would I be correct in that assumption and would that explain the sort of feeling I am getting when this happens it may be a touch to high a voltage at present this is all very new to me all the in's and out of how it works at the moment, a bit like getting your first ever smart phone with no manual so quite a learning curve for me just now.
Many thanks
