Odor

Implanted device 11-12-15. Within 2-3 weeks experienced chemical odor. Now it's even worse. I can't connect it to anything such as time of day or activity. Anyone else out there?

I told the doc at the first follow up. He said he had a cold so he couldn't smell. The nurse didn't want to get close enough. My wife can smell it. The next device check is on 2-22. I have other symptoms such as occasional stabbing pain. The site looks fine

Hi,
If you feel what you are experiencing is in any way related to your device site, call your medical care. You did not mention any other symptoms. Please let us know how you are doing.

odor

I do have concern about the indifference of your medical care about any symptom. Infection can present a foul odor, also pain. If you have any other signs of infection such as fever, redness (especially streaking), or swelling also, you need immediate evaluation. 2-22 is far away if you have an infection brewing. Please consider a second opinion for your safety and peace of mind if your current care does not take you seriously. Take care.

Your concern

I'm not experiencing any of the symptoms others are talking about. I have no pain and the bardychardia is taken care of. The odor is annoying more anything. If I don't get a concerned response next week at the device check then I'll see someone else. Thanks everybody

Re Odor

I am experiencing an odor somewhat like an odor after not taking a bath. It is not like underarm BO but just like a sweaty, dirty odor. I, of course take a bath daily and keep my hair and teeth clean. Always put on clean clothes. The odor isn't real strong. Kind of smells like a dirty kitchen sick sponge. I do not have any pain, swelling or streaking. The site looks fine. I have been searching for what this odor could be and thought it might be emitting from the PM but just can't tell for sure. I know its weird to have such an odor
from a PM and it really doesn't make sense. I have had the PM for 5 months but the odor just started yesterday. No one else says they can smell it. Does anyone have this weird problem associated with a PM? Maybe it is something else but I just don't know what on earth it could be. Thanks.

Odor

I had a Medtronic pacemaker for 10 years and of course it had to be remove because of age. I had lead problem Through The Years with it but that's about it. In 2014 they had to take everything out even some of the leaves and replace it with a Boston Scientific cardioverter pacemaker. Within a couple of months just before my daughter's wedding I developed an odor under my left arm pip. Went to skin doctor and family doctor and one other doctor. no one seemed to either care or do anything about it. This past Monday went for my pacemaker check up and told them that they needed to do something about it. I told the nurse to swipe her hand in my armpit so that she could smell the odor. She gave me slip of paper to have a blood culture done and also called upstairs to cardiologist and told him to do a tee you make sure the heart with not infected. I will be going to the dermatologist this week and I'm going to insist that he does the skin culture. I have read about other infections that can be associated with the odor. They all relate that to the pacemaker. I have tried deodorant after deodorant. The dermatologist even gave me a prescription for a special liquid to put under my arm to help but it doesn't. I read in the Boston Scientific handbook that the pacemaker can cause infection. Why they didn't do a test on the pacemaker instead of the heart first I don't know. Maybe they just why did you make sure the heart wasn't infected because that is more dangerous than the pacemaker being infected. My pacemaker has protruding noticeable lumps. You can see the wires through the skin and the Pacemakers. My skin is thin which you can tell there's a pacemaker there. If anyone has had an answer to odor problem, please let me know. The doctor are not giving me proper information. Thank you very much if you do have an answer or not. Thank you also for listening.

You know you're wired when...

You can hear your heartbeat in your cell phone.
