At the end of last year I had a Pacemaker fitted and now later this year I am planning a holiday where it will involve a flight to Europe. How will I manage with airport security

airport security

Just walk right through as if you had no pacemaker. I do carry pm id card in hand but have never had to show it. Have gone through Atlanta, JFK, Athens, Greece, Istanbul off and on cruise ships , Dublin etc.

I know some people walk through the scanner but I'm not comfortable with that so I will always show my card and go around. I don't feel, like taking a chance just as I'm about to leave the country. Lisa

I have gone through in Canada. Showed my card and they walked me around to the 3D scanner. No issues. Coming from Mexico showed my card and they did a pat down. No questions asked or issues. In fact I made it through faster than my friends ;)

Initially I would show my ID card and go around for a manual search, but now I don't bother and just walk through as if I didn't have a PM - no problems, even with some metal left in my chest from the open heart surgery which they left holding my sternum together afterwards.
I advise staff and show my card

We went away a few weeks after my implant. I just showed my card and they took me around the side for a pat down.
They were more worried about my SOS bracelet, they thought it was a watch and wanted me to take it off and put it through scanner, but I explained what it was and all was OK.
I have more trouble getting my CPAP machine through sometimes, they always seem to want everything taken out of the bag - try recoiling a 6 foot tube into a laptop sized bag when you've got a whole flight of people behind you trying to get past!
You know you're wired when...
Bad hair days can be blamed on your device shorting out.

I'm 43 and have had my pacemaker four weeks today. I'm looking forward to living another 50 years and this marvelous device inside me will help me do that.
Airports in Europe

I currently live in spain and when travelling, I simply show my pacemaker identity card along with my ID, telling them that I have a pm. I am also aware that in some modern airports, 3D scans are now used where it is fine to pass through it even with pm implanted.
