Replacement

Due for replacement of my Biotronik single lead pm.probably around April 2013. What should I expect? During these past 7 years I have never known that I even have a pm, I have never felt it. Only problem I had was a very ugly keloid at the incision site, I assuming the surgeon can clean that up when He implants new device. Anyone have any feel for life of current devices? Pm rep says 14 years, (but He is a salesman) Im assuming replacement will be same manufacturer, as that's about all my Cardiologist uses.

I am on #3 now

1st one only lasted 2 yrs but had a lead problem. #2 lasted 8.5 yrs & told this one will probably last as long. I am paced 100% due to AV node ablation. And I was completely unaware of the PM #2 & same with #3 now. Am sure you'll get a lot of answers here.

Hope that helps,

PM life

My pm has crossed 10 yrs 4 months. The min life shown is now less than 1 month, estimated at 8 months and maximum 16 months. I get it monitored every month. The medtronic guys are so nice. I am expecting remaining life for another 8/9 months. I am also told that new version pms will last longer, but you have to pay some amount, otherwise replacement of the device is free. You have to pay only the operation costs.

Replacements are super easy! They go in the same place so it's all scar tissue, and unless there's a problem they leave the leads so we don't have any of the restrictions during healing we did the first time.

How long it lasts depends on what model they give you and how it's programmed. Fingers crossed you get 14 years and then some! I have a dual lead and am 100% dependent, I've never gotten more than 7 years out of one. I'm on my 4th.
