Xeralto

Hi everyone

I would like to know how many of you have to take Xeralto and which side-effects have you experienced? Reading about the side -effects on the internet is VERY discouraging! Also side-effects on beta-blockers?

I am at 6 weeks after PM and checking in with my cardiologist this coming week... I am taking 2.5mg beta-blocker, seems to keep tachy under control.... dr will still decide whether I will have to take Xeralto, I am petrified that he will prescribe it for me!!!

Beta-blocker side effects

by LondonAndy - 2015-10-18 09:10:39

Hi Zetha

Can't comment on Xeralto, but seem to have what I am told is an unusual side-effect of beta-blockers. I had a new mechanical aortic valve in Sept 2014, due to calcification, (and the PM was a result of surgical complications). Was put on a beta-blocker shortly after I left hospital (2.5mg Bisoprolol/day) and no problems for over 2 months, then developed a pain in my thighs on exercising (including walking, which had previously been fine). Have tried Metoprolol and now Nebivolol, which has proved to be the best but still results in pain. Docs so far say this is as good as it will get, but getting a second opinion and will post an update if any news.

Xeralto

Why would you be prescribed Xeralto? Yes it has dangerous side effects and if you bleed easily, I wouldn't take it.

But having said that- ask why Cardiologist wants you to possible take it?

Are you also taking statins by any chance ? They often cause muscle pain.

Statins and muscle ache

by LondonAndy - 2015-10-19 05:10:51

Hi Ian - thanks for the suggestion. Yes, have been on statins for over 20 years, without problem, and blood tests have so far ruled them out as a cause. (CK level comfortably within the right range). My doc and I stopped different tablets that showed muscle pain or fatigue in the information leaflet for a week each, one by one, and it was when I stopped the beta-blocker that the pain stopped.

However, whether it is because of the combination of statins with the beta-blocker, or something else, is what I hope to explore further with the second opinion. Seem to have some symptoms of an underactive thyroid, so will post an answer if and when I get one :)

Xeralto for 4 days

by Sparkie - 2015-10-21 04:10:22

Hi
I was on Xeralto for 4 days. I had a few side effects and had to be taken off of the medicine.. I am also on metoprolol XL 12.5mg once a day. I felt a cool rush in my heart over and over.( swish) Come to find out my mitral valve was regurgitating and the valve was not shutting. ( still does not shut) It felt like my blood was rushing through my heart quickly. Had a terrible head ache. I told my husband I did not feel well around 6pm.
I went to bed about 11pm and awoke to lighting bolts in my eyes. I saw them when my eyes were shut and open. My husband called 911. To make a long story short. The only blood thinner I can use is aspirin 325mg once a day. I know everyone acts differently to medicine. PLEASE Make sure the doctor checks to see if you have any heart valve issues.
I hope this helps.

Xarelto and others

Hi,
I would research, research, research and think long and hard before beginning Xarelto or any other drugs with the same purpose. It seems many drugs have as many undesirable effects, including death, as the health problem their purpose is to correct/stabilize/prevent. I made the informed decision with my cardiologist to not take such drugs because of the possible horrific effects of such drugs. I wish you peace with your possible difficult decision.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the feedback on my question on Xarelto on the 18th October.... since buying my tabs this week, I have seen the correct spelling thanks PJ!

You are a great source of information, thanks again PJ.... to prevent blood clotting is exactly how my cardio explained it to me as I now realize/understand that not only brachy and tachy, I also have AF! Unbelievable! Cardio did not give me a choice as to whether I want to take blood thinning meds, on the contrary, I could only decide on which one, W or X.

I was also not happy at all to start beta_blocker, 2.5mg, but I must admit that I could feel the tachy going away and as I've had lots of the tachy episodes the last 6 months, it is really just about gone now .... of course I had no idea why I was having these heart palpitations..... I thought it was due to stress seeing that my husband had retired earlier this year, as for me having been a 'home executive' haha, for all the many years of my married life!

Quite an adjustment, retirement, but unpredictable as life is, with husband being at home now with all my 'traumatic' medical experiences, husband could be at my side 100% supportive and I am so thankful for that, he has really been my knight in shining armour!!!

This forum has really been such a great help and inspiration, because no one I know has had this experience and only when one has walked in the same shoes, does one really understand!

Thanks ever so much, Zetha.
