Driving

I would like to know when can I start driving myself...... my doctor said I must be careful with my left arm for 6 weeks, especially not to lift above my shoulder/my head.

It is now 3 weeks since PM, and I'm feeling fine, I would love to drive myself, will have more freedom, but wondering IF because I have to change gears with my left hand.... if anyone has an answer for me please?

I have my cardiologists mobile nr, but don't want to bother him with trivialities..... I am not stranded at home, I don't have to go out to work and my husband takes me anywhere I want to go and he helps with the grocery shopping. Anyway, I like doing my own thing sometimes.

Post Op

I was driving two days after my surgery. My post op instructions said no lifting over 10 lbs for weeks 1-2 and no more than 20 lbs for weeks 3-4. Also to not raise my left arm above shoulder level for 30 days. I had to ask him specifically about driving. Some of those who have a seat belt going across their incision find ways to cushion it so that it does not rub or put too much pressure on that area.

Drive now !

There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be driving. Here in the UK we are legally allowed to drive 7 days after implant.Other countries may have different rules

I had to drive 700 miles across France on Day 7. Apart from a tiny possible discomfort from the seat belt you will not have any problems

Ian

Thanks!

Thanks Artist and Ian...... can't wait to get into my car today, great news that you people have been driving so soon after, doing 700 miles across France, then I can certainly drive to shopping malls, which are 15 min from my house!!!

Hi Zetha It is quite easy to do :-

- Go into "My comments",
- Go into " Edit"
- Open the message you want to delete
- Delete at bottom of screen

Best not to do it while you're driving though !

Ian

Thanks Ian

I started driving myself and although I was very nervous and I lacked some confidence, as soon as I got going I had no discomfort in my arm and I went on my way quite happily as previously... it actually did me a world of good to do my own driving and my own shopping and coming home with some new clothes to wear, which ALWAYS gives a lady a boost!

Going out again today to meet my daughter-in-law for lunch..... so now I feel I might get back to my normal self as before, only with an extra gadget!!!

I started driving after a week of implanting, and my drive took about 4 days, 3200 kms from Sweden to Portugal . I have got my PM implanted 5 months ago without any issues!
