Hot Tub

Since fall and winter is almost on us. I wanted to ask the question if it's ok to get in the hot tub. I've had my pacemaker for 6 weeks now.

Something of national, universal importance ..We , all of us, must work on to improve ..The medical "profession" and doctors are particularly bad on this matter . You should have been given a "do or do not" paper upon being set free from the hospital..Something written in plain English, covering all details ..
And, true, it is best answered by the medical profession .....ever call a doctor ?? I have tried , its an exercise in futility ...

We don't have your medical records and aren't doctors. So we don't know what medications you are taking, what medical problems you have, and how your body will react to things like hot water over longer periods of time.
Having said that, I know how good being in a hot tub can feel.

The other question is how you like the hot tub? Super hot? Or do you like just warm? Either way can cause problems.

Sometimes, having the body at an elevated temperature over a long period of time can cause adverse reactions to medications or cause adverse reactions with the heart. We, on the forum, not knowing your circumstances can't answer the question.

In any case, I'd be cautious about hot tub usage.

I do it every night....

....for at least 20 min. Been doing it for two yrs, now. Never a problem unless I stay in too long at too high a temp.

Knot Guy is correct - it really depends on your reason for the device & Meds. I'd guess more about Meds than the PM. The PM could care less about you going into the tub. It will function quite nicely at temps slightly above 100 deg F.

Also would depend upon your reason for the device. As Patch said - if you could tolerate it prior to the implant, you should be able to tolerate it now.

A few suggestions - don't go whole hog at the first dip. Don't stay in for a long time - try 5 min for the first try, just to see what happens.

Keep the PM out of the water the first try - not for the PM, but to allow your body to dissipate the heat of the water. Keep the water temp at 100 Deg, F or less - again just to see how your body reacts.

Don't go in alone - you might need help. No alcohol prior to or while in the tub.

Check out the meds you have in your body - do any of them make you feel unbalanced, lightheaded, etc? Any Beta Blockers that slow down reaction time? That can be dangerous.

A lot of us hot tub frequently w/o harmful effect.

Just remember that we are not Dr's & don't even play them in TV ads, so our advice is worth exactly what you are paying us for it - nothing.

I suspect that every member of the PM club has received exactly the same amount of training on the use of hot tubs for PM patients as have the medical profession i.e. ZERO

But go ahead ask your Dr ( or you could try the window-cleaner , he's attended the same number of lectures on the subject )
