Medic Alert

I have mine thru Medic Alert. Been a member with them since I was 8. (i'm now 43) My parents original got it because I have congenital complete heart block. Granted, there were many years I didn't wear it (as a teen/young adult) but I am also on warfarin along the pm so thats why I wear it now. If theres an incident and I can't speak all they need to do is to call the 800 number and they'll be able to get my name, doctors info, medical history, etc.

This is the future .. all medics will need a reader ..I hate bracelets , any jewelry and tattoos .. The VA has been after me to wear a bracelet , for years , I'll never do this .. Medics .. just check my wallet .

A combo watch/ID bracelet

This may be another good idea, I might be open to this, right now, my watch is "rotting away" , I never wear it..But, I do have the wallet card ...

Got mine locally

Went to a local jewelry store where I could actually see, feel and touch the Medic Alert necklace (can't wear bracelet, drives me crazy). They engraved it for me there, took about 20 minutes.

I also have a Medical Alert page on my iPhone that lists my conditions, meds, doctors and emergency contacts. The Emergency Services personnel of today live by their cell phones so they now how to access the information (available even when the screen is locked).

For something like this, I would buy it at the local drugstore. Most drugstores carry these. If you buy it locally you can look at it, touch it and know exactly what you are getting.

Your choice

American Medical ID has been a good online source for me. They have a wide variety. A little on the pricey side, but there is a bigger selection.

You have to ignore their - add on - sell up - sales pitch. If you can wait for their sales you can get some good deals.

I got several ID's for me and the spouse. We can upscale if we're going out to a nice function, or go with the plain stuff for every day out-in-the-garden stuff. Wore them constantly when we went to the UK - just in case.

Discussion on the forum about 1.5 years ago was 50-50. One half saying the medical ID's helped, one half saying they did no good. I figure I'll err on the side of caution and wear one all the time.

Hope you find something you like.

Bracelet , maybe, when I venture out

At the Mall

My wife and I were walking thru a local mall and saw the bracelets and necklaces at a jewelry kiosk. Prices ranged from $20 to $40. It was recommended to me to get a necklace as opposed to a bracelet because if you are in a serious accident you could lose the limb your bracelet is on.

I also carry my card in my wallet at all times, and I have looked for an app so I could have the info on my smartphone, but I just haven't found one I like.
