I'm now on a beta blocker Toprol. Does this help with chest pains and shortness of breath? The ER gave me nitro and it worked so they sent me back to the hospital that put on my pm, they did a chemical stress test said I was fine no new damage. The nurse told me about the Toprol as the docs couldn't be bothered, she said my heart was not beating efficiently that's why the new drug.
Any input about this would help! As I am not asking any doc about as they treat me like it's all in my head!
Thanks, Naomi

Seek a second opinion , demand answers, write everything down ..lest ye forget .. happens to me as well. I wish you success in finding better doctors..
They MUST learn to communicate ..as well as learning how to write ...
As to the Toprol drug ... someone will chime
Best of good fortune

Thank you both for your input! It has helped more than you will ever know!
I am looking for new doctors all of them! So tired of being dismissed.
That was the first time any doc had given me nitro for my chest pains!
Again thank you! Naomi

If you have been taking nitro and have a pacemaker chances are that you have a plumbing as well as an an electrical problem of the heart . The nitro should open up your blood vessels and give immediate relief from your chest pain ( angina )
The Toprol ( metoprolol ) can help both electrical and plumbing problems. It should help with your chest pain and shortness of breath but will give far more prolonged relief than the nitro .
It will slow down your heart rate, reduce the force of the blood being pumped and will relax your blood vessels ( this last effect should help with your breathlessness ). Cardiologists try beta-blockers first for most heart conditions ; I hope it works for you.
