Getting pacemaker

Hi, after about 25 years of more of suffering I am finally getting a pacemaker. Had 2 cardiac ablations in 2000 for psvt. I have arrythmias PVC's, PAC's, tachy/brady syndrome, diastolic failure. When I sit or lie down I drop to the low 40's and when I stand or do anything at all I go right up over 100 and climb to 130's to 150's. At least I don't get stuck over 200 anymore since my ablations! That is how my life goes all the time. So when I take beta blockers for the highs to be able to breathe at all my heart goes in the 30's when I am sitting or lying down. Now that I finally have insurance I will be receiving a Medtronic dual chamber pacemaker on June 30th. I am a bit antsy about this as I had 2 friends almost die last year from having one put in. I know lots of positive outcomes so hoping for a better life. A major concern I have is I have an autoimmune illness CREST and have severe asthma and allergies and dysautonomia. I am afraid that my body may reject the pacemaker. Anyone out there with Scleroderma also have a pacemaker? I am 56 years old. Thanks for input! P.S......I am scared but hoping to have a more normal life after this. So glad I found this site.

I will be praying for you too! Yours is coming up soon! What have your docs told you about the pacemaker for this illness? They want to also ablate my SA node but I think they said that would be done later. I do not want to let them do that yet until I know that my body will not reject the pacemaker. Thanks and God bless.

Good Luck and Welcome

I am going on 2 1/2 years now with a Boston Scientific CRT-P, no defib. I had many of the same symptoms you describe, and two failed ablations.... With the PM, I am much better and have gotten off all the rate control drugs they were throwing at me, only a mild blood pressure med and an anticoagulant. I can do yard work and exercise and climb stairs and generally have an improved life. It's not perfect, but it is life. I hope yours works out for you. Follow your doctor's advice, but if you have questions, make them give you straight answers. Remember, IT'S YOUR HEART!

Good Luck and Good Life. PJ

Thanks!
