Prominent CRT-D

I am quite thin and my Boston Scientific CRT-D is very prominent. In addition, it seems like there is something like another wire that comes out from the top of the device and is rather noticable under the skin of my upper chest. It seems to be a couple of inches long. Have noticed this before, but it seems to be a bit more prominent lately.Anyone else notice anything like this.

Life With A CRT-D

by AngrySparrow1 - 2016-05-25 08:05:29

Guess what? I am not thin, kind of average and busty, my device is very noticeable, the little connectors and even the wires.

When I realized I really hated how the thing looks and I hated the device, I had a talk with myself.

1. Why do I have this thing implanted?
Main reason, scared to death of having another
Stroke. Death, not scary, Stroke scary.
2. Would I rather risk another Stroke and have my
chest look "normal?
Since I never follow the lead, living with a
odd huge lump and scar, simply offered
a opportunity to educate people. So
my CRT-D is now my Red Badge of
Courage.

I live life, I have boo boos, I can not change that, I can only find a positive way to work them into my life.

I can not hide my device, the darned thing is in the way, all the time. I think it has a life of its own, it gets sore, red, sometimes hives form over it, sometimes it sticks out further than others, my bra strap it on it, my clavicle and plate that hold my shoulder together collide when I am trying to sleep on my side. Oh, and the cats try to walk or claw the darned thing from time to time.

Kind of funny, you know how some people have a secret hand shake? Well, we have a secret way of meeting someone with something in common. Our device shows we own a ICD or CRT, kind of an inside way to meet someone new that we might otherwise miss. I stopped and talked to one lady, pointed out my CRT, she explained she also has a external heart pump and how great it works. I learned a lot from her and now we are friends.

ONE SUGGESTION, USE A SUN BLOCK OVER THE AREA.

No worries

Hi Mona
I am "fairly thin", and my CRT-D is also somewhat noticeable..really only if I'm not wearing a good support bra. It is one of the problems of being thin.
The wires ....not much we can do about them. I try to wear tops that people will NOT notice that area, even if it's a tank top...(.bright colors or patterns help me)
So long as there is no pain, unfortunately , there probably is not much else you can do...
Good luck and Happy ticking !!! LOL

Thanks all for the encouraging words. I will start using sun screen. I try to not get too much sun on the device even tho I love to sit and read in the sun.

You know you're wired when...

You have a $50,000 chest.
