Medical device bracelet

Hey guys. I'm a pacemaker newbie (just had it implanted in December) and some family and friends are suggesting that I get a medical device bracelet/necklace. My cardiologist never mentioned it to me. Do you all have them?!?

Thanks!

Some people do some don't. I do.

Yes

I have one which came in useful 2 years ago. I tripped up a step, flung myself into a wall concussing myself. Since I was then in 'LALA' land for a while, doctors in emergency were able to see that I had one. It is not usually doctors who scrape you off the road, but bystanders and paramedics, who usually look for medical jewellery with your details. It just makes it easier for them.

I Have One

Two weeks after my PM implant I got a nice bracelet from Ebay, with a good chain, lobster clasp and I never take it off. It has curved edges on the plate and the length of the chain was custom cut to allow for a half inch slack for comfort. I am alone a lot and think it is very advisable. We are told to keep our PM card with us at all times, but who does that when they are out mowing the lawn or taking a walk. Better safe than sorry.

Previous comments on the forum came down 50/50 with half saying it's a good idea and half saying they didn't work.

I decided to err on the side of caution and wear one. Already survived one incident where I didn't have one. Don't really want to temp fate if the worst happens again.

Not just cause of the PM but i'm also on Pradaxa and Rhythmol especially the pradoxa can have serious consequences especially if you're bleeding. It's better safe than sorry.

Road ID

I have an interactive one made by RoadID. It has a phone number to call or a web address on the front and it has a serial number and a pin number on the back side of the bracelet so anyone can call to get info or look up online (most people have smart phones now or computer access) to get information that you add to the website including emergency contacts, medications, other health issues you might have, etc. I copied all the information on my pacemaker card onto the site. You can go online and update it as your medications and health issues change (or you get a PM replacement). There is an annual fee for the service but it is very minimal.

Getting one

Since my pm was implanted without any visible signs (scars ect.) There would be no way to know I have one. As someone mentioned, if I were laying on the lawn I wouldnt have my card. I thought about the USB ones, but after looking at them for a bit, most of them conceal the usb. I don't think many would even know to look for it.

I have one....etsy was the bracelet and ebay for the plate. On the front it has pacemaker, on the back I put the model and serial #. The bracelet is very pretty, but if a medic was taking your pulse-pacemaker is right there on the plate.
I was having my blood drawn, the the nurse said oh, that's a great idea!
