Muscle Twitches 2-3 times in Morning

I had my PM inserted about a week ago and I've been very careful about following the instructions not to lift my arm or use it for lifting. I admit I'm probably being over-cautious about it but that's not really what's worrying me. The way the doc explained it was that I have to be careful that the muscle on the PM side of the chest doesn't move too much because it could pull the leads loose.

What has me concerned is that in the morning when I first wake up and stretch a bit, I avoid stretching/tensing that side of my chest too much. When I tense the rest of my chest to stretch but not that side, the side with the PM twitches two or three times. It only happens in the morning when I first wake up. I can't duplicate this problem at any other time of day.

The muscle that twitches in the one that runs back into my armpit (or just under it, its hard to describe), which is the one that was really sore after the implantation. It doesn't hurt when it twitches (it actually feels kind of nice, like a good stretch) but it is a fairly significant movement and I'm absolutely paranoid that this will be enough to detach the nodes.

The questions I have are:
1) Has anyone else experienced this?
2) Is this enough to detach the nodes? If it does, how do I tell they've been detached? My PM should only activate once a month or so and I'd really prefer not to wait until it just fails to turn on when I need it to to make sure it's fine. Is there a way that I can test to make sure that everything is working fine so I don't have to make a trip into the doc?
3) Is this something I should let my Dr. know about?

I've been very careful about following the directions I was given and I'm worried that this involuntary movement will screw something up.

muscle twitching

Hi Jane,

Welcome to the PM club! Yes, I too had some muscle twitching after my PM implant. My doc told me it was probably just nerves knitting back together and it was nothing to be concerned about. He told me they could last up to a year, but I haven't noticed it for several months now..

I think your leads are fine, especially since you have been so careful and are a week out and aren't feeling any pain. We all did things like lift our arm over our head, lift something a little too heavy, etc. without pulling out our leads. I know I worried about every little thing but in reality it takes a lot to knock them loose.

As far as I know the only way to tell is when you have your interrogation and I had my first one 3 weeks after surgery. So unless it really starts bothering you and becomes painful it is probably ok to not let your doc know unless it would give you peace of mind.

Good luck to you. This site has really helped me cope and adjust more than anything. We have all been there and can relate to what you are going through.

Alrighty. That makes me feel a lot better. I'll try to stop worrying about it :)

Thanks,

.........I still get muscle twitching after my last implant, two years ago...usually after doing something physical in my work...its, for me,..something between annoying and entertaining...I suppose its, in effect a muscle 'tic'.

It kind of makes sense to me that, for some people, the body never quite gets used to this little Titanium Invader
