I understand that Diabetics (I am TII) can have kidney problems. I had a PM back in 1/14/15. This morning sitting in a chair stabbing pain coming from my right kidney area that lasted for about 5 seconds like some one was trying to shock me or stabbing pains that radiated in one spot and lasted altogether about 5 minutes off and on. Should I talk to the doctor inre that?

Kidney stones?
by Sue H. - 2015-10-09 10:10:20
Could be a kidney stone. I've had them and it started with sharp intermittent pain like you described.
Drink plenty of fluids and Dr told me beer helps flush the kidneys. Cheers..

want to note I am in stage 3 kidney failure and have never had pain in my kidneys.
been as bad as on the the upper edge of stage 4 kidney failure. but when properly hydrated recovered to the lower end of stage 3, now I am mid stage 3.
of course that recovery came at a cost, soon after that hydration I had my first heart failure.

This is to dhusemann who answered my post dated 2015-10-09. Please unravel the abbreviation egcr that I am to look for when I get my blood work done. I looked in our abbreviation's here on our site and on google to no avail. Thank you!

how recent was your last blood work up??
Look for egcr, it is an indication of Kidney Function.
<60 is a possible indication of issues with the kidney's (I say possible as dehydration can significantly lower that number)
Sharp pain could be a small kidney stone, and a multitude of other things.
