Pacemaker

about two years ago I had a pace maker fitted, before I had a fall in the shower and mum sent me to hospital. when they told me that I need a pacemaker I was devastated, and still to this day I am not constable having it as I feel that it is not a part of my body and shouldn't be there. Also when I was just five mounts old I had whole in the hart surgery so I'm full of scars. I can feel were the pace maker is and it ices sometimes. I want to know is how would you know if a wire came loose and could you die from it if it suddenly came loose. I have so many questions, I know it is there to help me but still feel that something is going to go wrong with it. just need some reassurance..

I think most of us were devastated when we were told we needed a PM.

It is part of your body now....like it or not. Most of us have wondered about the "what if's". The more you learn about your PM and condition, the more comfortable you will become.

When your device is interrogated at checkups, it should indicate if a lead (wire) has a problem.

We all had/ have so many questions and concerns...only natural. The fact is our PM's are very reliable....they are little computers that keep our hearts pacing every beat. If a wire isn't working correctly, you may not feel well until it is fixed, but you will not die from it.

Your questions and concerns are very reasonable. There are so many safety measures within this little computer. They truly are amazing devices. Read and learn all you can here. It will help ease your mind.

You know you're wired when...

You have an excuse for being a couch potato.
