Shortness of breath

Hi, I'm new to the list. I've had my PM for a week, and am very frustrated by my shortness of breath. Reading through various posts, it seems I'm not alone in this. PM was originally set for 50 night, 60 day. Nurse changed it to 60 continuous. I think it's too high (I was quite comfortable when my bpm was in the low 40s) but it seemed that my heart wanted to take some short vacations. (Hence the PM) But as someone who has had to cope with asthma, I'm finding my current SOB very frustrating. Is this something that gets better with time?

Need to be adjusted

After a PM is installed, quite a few people need to have it adjusted to better fit the person and the heart needs. I feel you need to have yours better adjusted to you. In the meantime I feel you should contact your EP or his nurse, let them know of your problems and see what they suggest.

For me, a setting of less than 60 would leave me short of breath. But different people need different settings. The standard settings for PM's seem to be 60, but not everyone needs that.

Hope you can get some relief quickly.

a lot the same

I had my second pm put in Nov. 2013 and I still have to contend with the shortness of breath. Everytime I mention this to my doctor he says it's probably not my heart since my EF has come up from 20% to 55%. My EP says that is an issue for the doctor and that he has nothing to do with my breath--he says it's a plumbing problem, not a pacer or electrical problem. So what do you do? Keep complaining and maybe someone will eventually listen! That's all I know. God Bless!
