A newbie question

I am 8 days into my pacemaker. I have noticed that when I am sleeping at night, my arms will jerk and wake me up. Has anyone else had this happen?

They set the voltage higher on the PM right after it's implanted. It could be that. You can always call your EP's office and ask too. When you first get a PM there are no wrong questions. It's a learning curve until you and the PM settle in together.

I was able to feel my PM when it kicked off right after they implanted it. I'd get the tickle and then a hard thump from my heart. Used to wake me up at night.
You get all sorts of weird feelings right after the PM is implanted. I also had pain going up into my left jaw.

After they dropped the voltage most of the weird sensations went away. No big deal on dropping the voltage, I was watching the tech when he did it. Didn't feel a thing.

Most things that go wrong with your heart/PM situation will hurt. So if you aren't hurting, chalk it up to weird feelings. If it really starts to bother you, you can talk to your EP and see if they are willing to drop the voltage a little. Otherwise see if you can hang in there.

Congrats on the Medtronic, it's what I have. A great piece of equipment. Hope you fare as well with yours as I have with mine. Oh, and welcome to the club. Only those of us who have one of these really understands what another goes through.

Hope everything else goes smoothly.

I did have this right after implant of ICD/pacemaker. My arms stopped jerking after about a month. I still jerk awake (not the arms jerking) every 10-20 minutes unless I take a sleeping pill.
