Medication

Hi,

I had horrible dreams when I was given Percocet in the hospital and to take when I got home. Some of the dreams would be just plain weird, but most of them were terrifying.

Are you on any new medication that could be causing it?

Are you on beta blockers by any chance ? they are a very common cause of dreams and nightmares. Any drug where the generic name ends in "olol" or "alol" is a beta blocker and can cause this !

Dreams that come

Sparrow is correct (as usual). Many things can affect dreaming. As she indicated you can be feeling better because of increased blood flow to the brain resulting in more dreaming. Dreaming is an indication you are getting longer and better rest. However, as Sparrow has indicated, you still could have sleep apnea which can affect the heart. As she also indicated there are several kinds of sleep apnea so it is best to get checked out.

My sleep apnea is the OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea). When I lay down, everything collapses in my throat, I have to strain so hard to breath I can have a heart attack or stroke. So I really have to be careful. Sleeping with CPAP has made my life so much better. I've carried it all over the USA, Canada, and Alaska. Took it over to the UK this year. It's just another part of the luggage.

As for dreams post PM. Yep, got those. Started out with hallucinations from Propofol in the hospital where I could choose which kind of hallucinations I had. I could close my eyes and get hallucinations, or open my eyes and get hallucinations. The dreaming part was better. One night I had my own private high definition, full color, well narrated, history channel show, complete. Only problem was, no one had turned on the TV! After I got home, continued to have wacko and vivid dreams. They only changed when they changed medications.

I attribute times I supposedly slept well and didn't have dreams prior to getting my PM as the times my heart rate dropped below the safe level. Shudder to think what could have happened. Also can't tell you how many times I woke up gasping for air with my heart thumping in my chest. After I got my CPAP, can't tell you how much better I felt and how much more energy I had. The only thing that gave me more energy was after I got my PM and got through my trauma rehab.

Unfortunately, I have no choice but to take the medications I have now. Don't want to experiment with anything else as everything is working so well. Having vivid, full color, dreams is a small price to pay for better health.

Please get yourself checked out for sleep apnea. It's not hard to do - a sleep study- and may make a major difference in your life.

Hope you can get some relief.

I wonder if you're on any statins. They make me have bad dreams. I couldn't take them very long because of muscle pain and weakness. Take a look at your meds.

no meds but night fighting

I take absolutely no meds. Which is a good thing. Had 2 sleep apnea studies but doc says not bad enough for cpap. I guess I am finally getting some REM sleep. Its nice to dream again. Something i cant rememer doing in years but I am usually fighting and cursing even shooting and stabing people. My wife laughs at me all night. Guess she isn't sleeping now. Maybe things will calm down soon. I would rather dream fight than wake up dead any morning.

Nope. No meds at all. That's the weird thing.

You know you're wired when...

You can proudly say you’re energy efficient.

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
