A week ago I had a PM and I am a airport police officer. I am concerned with all the equipment we carry. Does the radio mike on our collar lapel interfere with the PM? How about all the radios in the cruiser? I work in a small airport and the repeater equipment is in our back office will that affect the PM? I'm not worried about the scanners that TSA use, only our personal equipment. Can any one help please.

I would wear the microphone on the opposite side to the PM and keep the radio antenna as far away from the PM as possible. Also, I'd find out what frequencies and power levels the radios are configured for and check with the PM manufacturer. As far as the police vehicle is concerned, I'd just stay clear of any installed antennas. I'm guessing though that your employer would have some well established procedures.

Check your PM website. Medtronics website has the following information:

They're very conservative in their views. But it will give you a guideline to follow.
I haven't had any problems with electrical equipment and I volunteer at a woodshop. I can run any of the equipment and have no problems with electrical interference with my PM. I've also jump started my daughter-in-laws car and was leaning over running engines with no problems. I don't recommend it but, at the time, I had no problems. I just forgot I had my PM. I regularly travel under broadcasting TV towers. No effects on my PM. So they're better shielded and more robust than we are led to believe.
In the woodshop I can do just about anything. Most people don't even know I have a PM.
Hope you can get back to work full time.
You know you're wired when...
You invested in the Energizer battery company.

It is just over 10 years since a dual lead device was implanted for complete heart block. It has worked perfectly and I have traveled well near two million miles internationally since then.

If the radio equipment in your back office is installed propeely it should not be radiating significant amounts of RF into the office itself. Radio antennas are usually installed on airport building roofs and RF signals are also radiated (at low power) in RF black spots via cell enhancers and leaky feeders. So your job as a police officer should not expose you to more RF in that respect than the general public (assuming the equipment has been installed correctly).
