hello all...although i have had pacemakers for the past 24 yrs; i hope i am not asking a silly question. Can anyone tell me if they can tell the difference between a palpitation and a pacemaker "kick in"?..

Don't think so

Unless you are one of those people who can feel things like afib, don't think you can tell.

I'm one of those really rare people who can feel their afib. Can tell to the second when I go into it, can tell you what kind of afib I have, unfortunately can feel when they don't get the IV needles correct.

When they had the voltage set high on my PM for the first 90 days I could feel the tickle from the PM followed by the hard thump of my heartbeat. At / about 90 days they dropped the voltage. After that I couldn't feel the tickle any more. So now I don't feel the PM kick in.

I can still tell my afib but I can't tell the difference between a regular heartbeat and a PM generated heartbeat.

So, unless you have a nervous system like mine, I don't thing you'll be able to tell the difference between a naturally occurring heartbeat or a PM generated heartbeat.

You know you're wired when...

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
