New here

I'm so glad I found this site. I'm a 68 year old female and I had aortic valve replacement in 2006 and now am preparing for a pacemaker due to irregular heartbeat. I have a consultation appointment with a doctor my cardiologist referred me to next Tuesday.

After reading some of the posts here, I know I've come to the right place. I'm nervous about the procedure and would like any suggestions any of you may have.

There is so much to tell you but do you have any questions? I'm 35 years old and I'm am on my fourth ICD. I got my first one I planted when I was twenty three so I know my way around a device..😉👍 I am happy to help any way I can.

It's normal to be nervous. I wish I had found this site before my implant. You will be ok.

Update today

I saw the cardio specialist today. He told me I have heart block in one area and afib in another. Next Wednesday he will do a catheter I think its called and go thru a vein from groin to heart to see if there's damage. He said damage could be from the open heart aortic valve replacement I got almost 8 years ago. The second step would be the same process only it would be to cauterize the damaged area if any then be put on meds for it and if that doesn't work then it would be a pacemaker.

The specialist was very thorough, explained things, and very updated in the latest technology so I feel confident in trusting him.

Thank you to any of you who read my postings. This is like a whole new family to me here.

No pacemaker yet

Had the catheter test Wednesday and they said I don't need a pacemaker yet but just will be on meds. I see my cardiologist on the 13th to learn more about the results.

My next dilemma is income. I left a very stressful job at that same time all this heart stuff has been going on and haven't gotten disability yet so I'm at new stress situation.

Can't do much of anything for a week which ads to the frustration.

Great!

That is great news you don't need a device! I'm really sorry about the meds though. Medications can be harder on the body sometimes than and actual surgery..(That's been my experience. ;)) Make sure you are able to take generic. I know cost is a big factor, our cardiac meds are expensive! But, some generic meds change their ingredients so they can make the meds for a cheaper cost. Good luck! I'm here if you need me!
Big hugs!

Since my posts a year ago, I changed cardio doctors and it was the best thing I could have done. In September I ended up with a second aortic valve replacement, a complete aorta replacement, and a pacemaker. I'm doing really great and hoping to return to working soon due to finances. I feel fearful at times but I'm sure those thoughts will pass. I'm a single Grandma, and live alone which is scarey at times. Glad I found this site again.

Hi Vicki! Sorry for the late response. Life got in the way! ;) How are you doing now? Are you still alone?

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
