Hi everyone!!'
My name is Brenda Davis and I just received my PM about 2 wks. ago. So glad to find this site. I had to have a PM because of a fast heartbeat. Told I had A-Fib. I got a little scared a few days ago when I felt my heart was beginning to race, but became normal again in just a few seconds, so I assume the PM is working to make it normal. Going to have my first checkup since having it put in and assume I will find everything ok, at least that is what I am praying for. I was just wondering how soon after implantation can you shower without worrying about the area getting wet. And any other advice you can give me would be so appreciated. Like I said, am so glad to find this site as this is all so new to me!!! Any advice is appreciated!!!

The main issue before showering is to make sure the incision is closed to prevent infection.
I cheated and covered my incision with a waterproof dressing and took a shower with a hand held wand on the second day. I live in Florida, it gets hot, and if you don't shower, you stink!

When I had my PM replaced over the summer I was told that I could shower in 2 days but not to have the stream hit my chest and to keep it at dry as possible. Guess like all other restriction it depends on your doctor.
just got my PM a little over a week ago

they told me in the when I went home I could shower in a week. The phisiologist told me 4 days my cardiologist saw me for a checkup only 3 days after and said ok that day to shower. I actually showered and washed the are 5 days later and all is well.

I just had my PC yesterday and because my incision was glued, my doctor said I could shower today. No lifting my arm. I am 43 otherwise healthy mom. I had a Hysterectomy 6 weeks ago and woke up with low heart rate that did not improve. Good luck

One week has passed and I must admit that each day I feel a little stronger.

Hello Brenda,
Welcome! You have come to the right place for all things PM related! I was told I could shower one week after my surgery when I had my first check up. At that time all he did was remove the steri-strips and look at the incision and tell me I could start showering right away and then drive and return to work in another week. I did not have my actual first PM check until 3 weeks later. I am about 7 1/2 months post implant now and doing well except for the stubborn 10 pounds I gained during recovery that refuses to budge!
Like you, this was all new to me. It was very shocking to learn I needed a PM when I felt fine and had no symptoms prior except for 2 syncope episodes one night.
This site has helped me so much. I knew no one personally that had a PM and knew nothing at all about them. I found the more I learned about them and my condition (heart block) the easier it was to deal with emotionally.
Good luck to you.
