Why take leads out

So after reading several postings, I have a question: Why do people take their units out after a few years, and also why consider taking out the leads? If you need it dont you always need it? or do you get better after a while? Just curious.

The battery runs out after a few years and you need to replace the entire pulse generator/implanted device. The leads can stay in place if there are no problems, I am told, 15-20 years. Implanting the leads are more technically challenging (especially for a CRT-D) than implanting the actual device, so they are best left in place as long as they are working well.

It's very rare for someone to stop needing their device. Most of us do not have problems that fix themselves.

Your anxiety is normal. It takes some of us a little time to adjust to the new friend. As much as they love you, family and friends without a device just cannot understand the adjustment we go through. That is why this site is so valuable.
