Just had a pacemaker installed. It was a breeze until 24 hours later when pericarditis raised its ugly head. Wow, I never felt pain like that before and I am 68.

Must pulse dropped to 20 bpm. and I was advised that I essentially lost electrical connection between the atrial and ventricular nodes.

All is well no, 3 weeks post installation and I am Glad to be here and not 6 ft under.

Glad you had the good fortune to be here. It's amazing how wonderful you'll be feeling, and hope you're going for cardiac rehab. One year after my husband's 2X quadruple bypass (they had to go back in 30 hours after the first one to re-do internal sutures) he was in an ambulance with single digit blood pressure readings ( i never knew that was possible) and got his pacemaker after one week in hospital. He's 65 and has been treated for heart failure since 1997, diabetic, afib.
He weighed over 450 pounds in 2007 when we met and is now 230 due to exercise and healthy diet, not gastric bypass so he's thrilled to have the energy and strength to function normally and be more active than he's been in 30 years. Sure he's still in afib, a wound vac helped initially but the scar tissue will never completely heal, the diabetes won't disappear. But after years of only 30 bmp he's amazed every day with never being <55bmp. my aunt got her pm when she was 77, and is very happy at 89. PaceMaker Club is a great resource with good info and real people who've lived through what you're feeling.

It's much better to live with a pacemaker than to risk your life without one.
