I had PM implanted about a month ago. Since then I have not been able to sleep as well, either waking up at 2am or not being able to get to sleep. I take ambien to help but do not want to be dependent on that.
i am 54
Anyone else experience this and does it go away.

Testing, testing....

I woke up one night at 2:00am the week following my PM/ICD implant with a strange feeling in my chest. By the time I was really awake enough to make sense of what was going on, the feeling had stopped.
The next week I went in for my first "interrogation" of my unit. In the procedure the Tech increased my heart rate via my device. That was the feeling I had the one night that woke me up!!!
She told me that it was part of the procedure programmed into my device to test each week. Told her what had happened and she turned that part off!
Would have been nice if they had told me to expect that before it happened!!!

I had a lot of trouble sleeping in the beginning. I took sleeping pills every night and sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't. Now almost a year later, I take pills only on nights I have to get up at 5 and go to work. I still wake up most nights after 4-5 hours of sleep. Sometimes I get back to sleep sometimes I don't. Sometimes I wake up because I roll over on the pm- does not feel good. I also have a very stressful job which invades my brain the most in the middle of the night!
give it time, we are all different, but we all understand.

But it went away eventually. I had night rate activated which helped. Also I have the Biotronik home monitor which sits on my bedside table. The rep told me some people find the green light annoying, and if so to turn it away. Took me about a month to realise that little green light was causing problems.
When you wake up do you worry about anything.. you may just be getting into a routine you need to break. Sometimes relaxation/visuslisation process when you wake can help.
Sometimes the devices do checks or downloads at particular times. Mine downloads at 2am - I'm not sure I could feel anything but I was certainly aware that it was programmed to do it, so if I woke a little after 2 regularly I made the connection. Now I don't worry about it.
