Hello everyone
My name is Marjolein and I live in the Netherlands with my husband and my 2 girls. My youngest one is 5 months old and was born with a congenital heart block. When she was 1 week old, she gets a pacemaker.
She is doing better now.
I can't find much parents of children with pacemakers in Holland so i'm glad to find this website.
I would like to have contact with other parents who have a little child with a pacemaker. So I can ask their experience and so I don't feel like i'm the only mama in the world with a child with a pacemaker.
Thanks!

On your new baby!
There are some parents here with small children and newborns. The one that comes to mind right now is Pacemum. If she doesn't come along today, you can always private message her. Go to the top left at Member List and list her name. From there, you can private message her.
There are also babies with PM's that are all grown up now and thriving....abigailwinthrop for one.
We are all so fortunate to be living in this day and age.
Welcome!

My daughter also has heart block. She was diagnosed when I was 6 months pregnant and had her pacemaker put in when she was 2 1/2. She is now 14 yrs. old and does great. She is athletic and a softball pitcher. Most people don't even know she has one. She is under no restrictions and does everything that every other child does. I'm sure everything will work out fine for your daughter as well.

My granddaughter was paced when she was 3 days old, also had heart enlargement at that time, but no further enlargement and she is now 10 years old. She is beautiful, active, on the honor roll at school and loves God, her family and people in general. Having any heart problem is a life long concern and when procedures come along or occasional complications we all still get really stressed - but my advice to you is to enjoy every day with your little one and don't let fears get the best of you. Follow your doctors orders about activities that could cause leads to break, etc., but my granddaughters never did. Her mom was careful not to let her have too much tummy time after the surgery and no "roughhousing" even now, but she has never had a broken lead. I hope and pray you get as much enjoyment from your little one as our family has from our little pacer.

It is nice to here that your daughter is doing better since having her pacemaker fitted.
My daughter has had a pacemaker since she was a baby and was born with other congenital heart defects. However, she is not small now as she is 14 years old and on her third pacemaker box. She has been able to take part in most things that other "healthy heart" children do.
Feel free to contact anytime with any questions. There are quite a few children with PM's in the UK.
Just for information - Although we live in the UK the heart surgeon who did most of my daughters heart surgery and implanted her first pacemaker is Dutch.
