Hello. I just received my PM 08/19/14, and when I woke up from surgery I felt 100% better. I might be a non-typical case in that I am 57 years old, and was scheduled for surgery 4 days after my symptoms presented. I was in bad shape, and it happened very quickly. I was looking at my copy of the bill (WOW) and noticed that they originally intended to install a St. Jude PM3210 ($16,000 plus) and then changed it to a PM3242 ($7,000 plus). Was this an upgrade or a downgrade? I do know that I had to have a 3rd lead installed. Thanks

Same device

General365, I have the EXACT same model! I had mine implanted in June this year and still waiting for the benefits. My heart and body have always been resilient so symptoms aren't as noticeable to me. It wasn't until my ankles, hands and face began to swell that I knew something wasn't right. I'd had a pacemaker implanted twice before, 2001, 2010, and June due to heart failure issues. I'm 2 months postop and there is some mild improvement but I'm not out running, jumping, and climbing trees yet =-). Glad the pacer helped you! Keep posting and look for others who've had your same issues...for many first time pacemaker patients they're scared of having to get a device implanted...your words and assurances are worth their weight in gold. Thanks...Keith.

I did not have time to be scared or do any research on PMs. My cardiologist, whom I trust explicitly, said I needed a PM, so I have one. I could not walk 50 feet without being winded. This happened on a Friday morning, and by Tuesday afternoon I was a new man. I was glad to find this forum.

From a quick google search, it looks like the 3210 was recalled! 3242 looks like the newest. Both are CRT devices, 3 leads.
