Visit to ER

Went to er when hr was around 130 for several hrs and was admitted. Was given Amiodarone iv and hr finally leveled out'When discharged next day was given presciption for for this med. When I got the med and read information that came with it I decided not to take it.Does anyone have opinions about this med? THANKS.

You need to have a conversation with your dr. No one wants to be on a beta blocker and they do have side effects, however living with a high heart rate isn't a good idea either. 130 isn't crazy, but it was bad enough to get you hospitalized. The point of the meds is to prevent it happening again.

How much Amiodarone did they prescribe for you to take daily? I took this for about four months. I had no adverse reactions to it but it is not a medication I would want to be on for a long time. Dosage is the key. I started at 1800 mg per day and was weaned down to 200 before they stopped it. The drug works but it can be hard on some and yet others have taken it for years with no problems.
