Doctors and stethescopes

Having been hospitalized AGAIN because doctors don't look at meds and side effects, I've experienced some doctors, and others, pushing way too hard on the incision when using stethoscopes. Others are as gentle as can be. Prior to my hospitalization the incision was tender but not sore. Now I plan to call the gal who monitors my PC to see if this is something I should be worried about. What is it with doctors? Don't they GET it? Aside from my having to tell them to NOT press so hard or do it in another place, I see no alternatives. And when you aren't feeling good in the first place, this is not paramount on my mind. When will doctors get it?
and, we as patients HAVE to take charge of our health in a more forceful manner. I was the one who discovered that the med was causing all the symptoms and I could have just slept it off and seen the doctor the next day. It was very disappointing.

Ain't that the truth

That was MY thot - who is this idiot? I've learned to speak up but it's still disconcerting. I think I finally have 3 doctors, all women, who seem to be on top of, and willing to listen, to what is happening. That in itself is a victory. It's the other yahoos who 'pop' in when hospitalized that we have to be concerned about. And I don't know what to do about it. Have a visit with my cardiologist this week and will be talking with her about that. Good luck on your health!

Why would they even put it over your pacer? They can't hear a heartbeat there!
No most doctors don't get it. I saw more a$&holes than a proctologist during a recent hospital stay. Thank God I had one very good hospitalist who was my former primary and a great cardiologist. Made me appreciate them even more.
You do have to speak up for yourself. I did when I saw an IV that had been spiked with tubing for several hours. The tubing was lying in the SINK. I let them know they needed to dispose of it, contaminated tubing wasn't getting anywhere near my vein. It made me wonder if someone who didn't understand basic infection control would have let them hang it.

Bossy...I'm still laughing at your proctologist joke. I needed that!

I had a couple of Doctors that would press too hard with the stethoscope too. I would wince but they never saw it. I just thought it was common to check that part of your chest. They never said they didn't hear anything.....hmmm.

My Ortho has a Nurse that I like a lot but....there has been a few times when you have to watch her. I went to check out and the receptionist told me I'm going to have another hip replacement and she needed to schedule me for the pre-op testing......NOOOOO. She insisted yes....it says it right here on the paper......NOOOOO. She went in to check with the Nurse. The Nurse came out, apologized and said she put it in my chart by mistake. Whew!!

Malpractice

You have to be careful. I got discharged after a procedure schnockered on versed and fentanyl, with a prescription for a med I had an allergic reaction to in the hospital. Happily filled it at the hospital pharmacy, from my wheelchair, still not aware of what planet i was on at the time. Had a chat with the medical director later and told him it was blatant malpractice. The doctors defended themselves saying I was agreeable to the prescription. While under conscious sedation. If the drs don't get what's wrong with that picture there is nothing else I can say.
