Shifting PM?

Hello,

My dog was really hyper last week and jumped on me while I was laying on the couch. She weighs 70lbs and landed with her front feet right on my pacemaker. My device is functioning with no problems, but it feels like it has shifted around. My PM is implanted in the muscle below my collarbone. I've had a PM for 16 years and it has never felt like it has shifted until now. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you get it fixed? Is this just in my head?

Thanks!

I think mine did...

Only had mine about four months when I was stretching and reaching up for something I shouldn't have. It dropped, placing all the weight onto my left arm which was fully extended over my head. My PM/ICD hurt like crazy for about a day or so and I am convinced it has moved some. It used to be totally straight across, now it is cocked about 15°.

Apparently no damage, but I think I just torn some of the scar tissue that had built up around it.

Thank you

It's been feeling irritated for a few days. It feels a little twisted, just like Lurch described. I'm glad that the feeling went away quickly and hope it does for me, too.

It's more likely you aggravated the scar tissue than did any damage. If it's swelling, that could make it seem like it's moved. Ice might help.

I had something similar happen about 6 months ago. One of my dogs, in her enthusiasm to get outside, slammed into the back of my knee and sent me into the doorframe. I stuck my hand out to keep from going face first into the steel, landed instead fist to pacer. I had a fist shaped bruise over it and it felt like it moved. It went back to normal within a few days.

If it still bothers you, get an xray...I lift 500 pound people at work and my pacer went under my armpit...displaced the atrial lead...I had to have another lead put in place and the surgeon had to reconstruct my pocket...he said it was a mess in there...so yes they can move...some people play with the battery and stretch the pocket...you cash stretch the pocket and that does hurt...as long as the PM is working and an xray says it's intact...good to go

You know you're wired when...

Like the Energizer Bunny, you keep going.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
