Security and your device

Good Morning,

My name is Stephanie Fitzgerald I was wondering if anyone else fears flying abroad due to the lack of consistency between airport security measures.
For example some prefer to use the magnetic wand on your lower body, knowing that if they go to close to your chest it could set off the devise. Others prefer to use the radio-wave machine, which although I have been in and is fine, airport security cannot guarantee your devise will not go off, and will not disclose any information about the machine to consultants for them to distinguish whether it is safe or not, due to security reasons.
However there are the odd security staff who will simply pat your down.

Call your pacemaker company and they will send you a sheet on airport screenings. I was really surprised what I could do with mine. I can even Arc Weld. Lot of EMF there.

I am new to this but your pacemaker card is kind of a ticket to extra special treatment if you want it.

I've had a variety of methods but I think it was at Heathrow, where the woman wanded directly over the pm. The guy who was with her said "I never do that over a pacemaker", to which she replied "I always do".
And at Dubai at 2am it took a while to make them understand I couldn't go through the X-ray ( not much English spoken). Being Dubai when they finally understood they took me to a cubicle for the pat down. The young woman thought I'd had a knee replacement, when I explained it was a pacemaker she asked if she could touch it and very gently patted it and gave me a lovely smile.
Airport security wouldn't stop me from travelling.

I am English and I have travelled all over Europe and have never had any touble going through customs.I dont know what it is like in North America but I always carry my card and every time I have had the patdown. It sometimes takes a few minutes longer because of going to a different part of the airport but overall I have not had a bad experience

With the new body-scanners, Pacemakers/ICD's are not a problem. You just go in like everyone else, it shows up & out you go. No pat downs, no wands. good to go. Happy flying!

airport security no problem

I live In Melbourne, Australia and often travel overseas.
Have just come back from the USA.
Have never had any issue whatsoever with going through any form of security device at any airport- even the relatively new scanners. Nor have I had any issue with being wanded.
The only issue I have ever had was carrying a cell phone in my shirt pocket. That made me feel "off" until I took it out, so I don't carry the phone in my shirt pocket any more.
I have a St Jude pm.

You know you're wired when...

A thirty-day guarantee is not good enough.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
