Woke up to a strong electrical shock 4 months ago while in hospital recovering from bladder surgery. My cardio said it was from the cauterize the surgeon used which caused the electrical response. Just had another shock while falling asleep (that's when my heart was pausing b4 pm) This am the area around pm seems a little sore. Never heard a pm delivering a shock only a defibrillator doing this. Anyone else have a small shock from their pm?

Shock

I have felt series of shocks several times. Once while unloading dishwasher and the most recent a series of 7 electrical shocks while driving. Was similar to shock received from frayed appliance cord not finger in light socket. This sensation went from pacemaker down through heart to about diaphragm level. Everyone says can not happen with pacemaker but I know what I felt, Trish
Hmmmm

The PM is a sealed shielded unit and the wires are also shielded, so unless the shielding has been damaged or removed it is very unlikely that the device is the source of the shocks. It also operates at very low power levels.
I'm sure that what you're feeling is real but I wonder if it could be a nerve or nerves giving the "shock" sensation?
Just a thought

I got my first pm 1/17/07 and was feeling small shocks in my abdomen, it would chang with position. I was clueless and then I luckily found this site! It took me 1 1/2 years to convince my doc, of what I found on this site! He gave me a new lead and I had no more trouble, Hurray!!! It was pacing my diaphragm!. Good luck!

Your anxiety is normal. It takes some of us a little time to adjust to the new friend. As much as they love you, family and friends without a device just cannot understand the adjustment we go through. That is why this site is so valuable.
Yes, and frequently

I first had "shocks", which feel like a small, painless jolt right after getting my pm (have had it 1.5 years) while sitting as a passenger in the car. I get them if my posture is bad...sitting straight usually helps. Have had them laying down. Often cannot lay on my left side. I never feel it while laying on my back...do you? Rolling my shoulders back (while sitting) stops it. Wonder what percentage of people feel this....
I was told that each of us has a particular positioning of the heart in our chest which can mean that we are aware of the pm working. Some of us are just more sensitive, too.
Have you tried changing positions?
I do not like the reminder that I am being paced. I still wonder if it is all working well tho I was told it is.
God bless!
