Blood pressure

I have a PM for SSS and Dysautonomia. Now my heart rate stays stable and has prevented further syncope episodes. However, I do occasionally feel light headed. I have BP in the low normal range (typically about 100/60 or sometimes a bit lower).

When standing up quickly, getting up from laying position, etc, I get light headed. My autonomic nervous system doesn't seem to respond quickly enough to raise my BP so my brain continues to be enough blood and oxygen. The PM helps keep the bottom from dropping out, but it can do nothing to respond to these low BP episodes. That is the job of the ANS and mine seems to be downright lazy!

My doctor gave me a lose dose of fludrocortisone, which helps the body retain fluid and increase blood volume. Increased blood volume "keeps the pipeline full" which tends to help maintain a steadier, higher BP. It definitely helped reduce the light headedness and I also notice that my resting BP is low closer to 120/80. There are other Meds that can do the same thing.

If you do find that it is a low BP issue, you can first try consuming more salt and drinking more water. This will also help you retain fluid and increase blood volume.

I am 62 years old and 3 weeks post op. I feel pretty good and blood pressure is 117/71. My resting hr today is 90 bpm. Is that normal ?

Make sure you relay that information to your doctor. I haven't experienced it so I can not provide insight, but wish the best for you.

Have you.....

Call your DR.
When standing up after resetting it felt like I was going to pass out and did one time. DR. cut one med in half and problem went away. GL.

Not a Dr but

I'd say that the most important thing is how you feel. If you feel good then it's probably OK. If you don't then get to your Dr. and get it checked out.

Some people post a very low BP in the 90's/60's and feel OK, and I'd be passing out if mine dropped that low. Many things can effect, fluid level, meds, mineral levels, etc...

HR's can vary too, my resting varies from mid 70's to low 90's. I think if I'm on the computer and get torqued is when I'm in the low 90's. I think the "normal" range is anywhere from 60 to 100. Again it's how you feel.
