Hello PaceMakerClub!
I truly am looking for information regarding dental cleaning and the uses of a cavitron during a cleaning.
Dental hygiene schools will always tell us "hygiene students" to never use a cavitron,, I am told over and over by cardiologists that yes a cavitron can be used. (I read yes you can or no you can't....)
A cavitron is a device that sprays water and has a high pitch sound that will helps remove plaque and tartar.
I wanted to ask the pacemaker club directly...I believe all or most of you get you teeth cleaned, what has your cardiologist told you(not what your dental office told you...what did you cardiologist tell you)?
Any insight from you I would appreciate.
Thank you, for you time

Had my first cleaning since the PM/ICD. Dentist office called my Cardiologist first, they talked and they used their normal equipment for my cleaning.

....................
Lets get this clear....in the USA litigious, defensive, attitudes feed straight into the coffers of predadory legal manipulatrers..sorry..but this is just what the System set up for the benefiet of the strongest.
So...Having Your Teeth Seen To is......
Just about basic dental hygiene,..as in...what you teach your kids....
Getting scared by ignorant Dentists / Heygenists just feeds the scare culture, that makes the uninformed comply with information based on nonsense.
IT IS ALWAYS about INSURANCE....
Your 'So Called' Advisors are totally insurance -led......
I am just thinking that the ..'Poor huddled masses'...seem to be , as ever, at the mercy of some greater force.
Never apologetic.

Here in the UK...massive Amoxicillin 3 gram ' cover' before any dental treatment is now seen as TOTALLY HISTORIC POLICY....as in an overdose on antibiotics that you might well need later in life when you might really rely on it.
This really does not need much thinking about.

My dental practice has been told to only clean manually for patients with pm's. This takes a bit longer but is just as effective. It would not matter what I tell them, it is their policy.

No problems

The hygienist would not use the cavitron until six months after my implant. The next visit it was used, and I didn't have even a hint of a problem.
I have a Medtronics ADAPTA dual lead PM
safe to use

Just keep the cable on the floor, not near the chest. It's fine. TatMan has it right, it's all about the lawyers.
You know you're wired when...
You fondly named your implanted buddy.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
Cavitron

I have a Boston Scientific ICD and I have been told by BS not to let the Cavitron cable lay across my body. They said to ask the Dentist to let the cable hang beneath the chair instead.
You can always check with the manufacturers of the device such as Medtronic, St. Jude and Boston Scientific.
