Old technology

Just had my pacemaker replaced on Thursday. The model is from 2006. Is that normal to use a pacemaker that old?

Medtronic Adapta

Hi!

Your bio states that you got a Medtronic ADDR01, which is a Medtronic Adapta. That's a really good pacer, and loads of members here have it. It is implanted very often, even today. Yes, the first Adapta came out in 2006, but yours was definitely not build in 2006. Medtronic still produces this pacemaker, because it's so good! They have most likely tweaked it a little here and there over the years, though. Be assured, you got nothing worse than anyone else.

Best wishes
Inga

Built in 2006?

Hopefully it wasn't built in 2006 otherwise the battery would be almost at it's end of life!

Just because it's from 2006 doesn't mean it won't do it's job. Here's an analogy, I have one of the first generation iPods. It stills play good music and sounds just as good as my brand new iPhone 5s.

They don't make huge changes every year. Most of the models being implanted today have been around for a few years. They have expiration dates after which they can't be implanted so it's highly unlikely yours was actually made in 2006, it just means that model has been in use since 2006. It's also possible they've made improvements to it since then but are calling it by the same name.

You know you're wired when...

You fondly named your implanted buddy.
