Arnold Palmer

I just saw that Arnold Palmer had a PM implanted recently. I wonder if we will be seeing him joining anytime soon. For those of you not enough to remember his days on the golf circuit, he was a class act with a working class swing who was followed by an army of supporters - "Arnie's Army". If he joins, he will find plenty of supporters on this great site!

Great idea but ..

.. holding a putter doesn't give me tachycardia , it's more of a total mental block ( a bit like heart block only 10 times worse ! ) .

I celebrate when I manage to 3 putt !! So , Arnie, where are you ?

Ian

What a concept...

...perhaps Medtronic can put a sensor in that slows the HR at the right time and eliminates the putting yips!!!

Not for 6 weeks

Hi Steve,

I am 53 and had mine installed in April. Doc said no golf for 6 weeks. A golf swing puts stress on the leads. You need to give the leads time to set. The last thing you want is to swing a club and pull a lead out.

As far as feeling anxious - give it time. None of us believed we would be battery operated. It is a little disconcerting whether you consciously are aware of it or not. I am 5 months in and life is back (better) than normal. Patience is the key, my British friend - and that advice comes from someone born and raised in New York City - a place with people not renowned for their patience!!!

Miss my golf

I've just had my pm fitted three days ago, how long would you say its safe to play golf again?? I'm 43 I play 3-4 times a week, the thought of even playing less or not at all is not a option for me, golf's my life!! Feeling very tired anxious and lightheaded right now, hard times. This site is a great help, any advice would be fantastic. Best regards steve from England.

Thanks for your help

Thanks Dave, New York City love the no patience comment. I've got myself out and about today, feeling more positive. My op was for a 2nd degree/ full heart block, my heart rate has doubled from 30+ to around 70-80 bpm. Anyway my palpitations are strong most of the day and short of breath. I'm hoping this is the norm? Dave I'm pleased your feeling better than before, how long did this take? I'm thinking a electric trolley is needed from now on!! Best regards Steve

Sorry

ChrisD why I'm calling you Dave is beyond me!!! Apologies.

No worries

I've been called a lot worse than Dave....and from my wife!!

My condition was very similar to yours. I was around 28 at rest with 2nd degree HB. My hR would go no higher than around 80 when running and then showed sick sinus syndrome at that rate. It took several trips,to,get the settings correct. I only had palpitations early on and I was short of breath but I was more concerned with my rate all of a sudden crashing from 140 to 60 when running. A few weeks and I was better after and a few adjustments to rate response and the ramp up profile as well as some other mystery settings which my doc and the medtronic rep conferred about. (Hell for all I know they could have been adjusting the frequency of my bowel movements). No palpitations and not short of breath. Don't be shy about documenting how you feel and the associated circumstances. There are many settings that exist for a reason. See the doc and let him know. I have only been on this site since April and I am amazed how many folks have issues such as yours, are given advice to go talk to the doc about settings, and their issues appear to go away. I know I knew nothing about pacemakers until I needed one and then I assumed they just got put in and "poof" that is all it took, but these things are complicated devices and more often than not there is some adjusting required. Keep the faith and if you are like most of the rest of us on this site, you will feel normal within a few weeks. Best regards, Chris
